ENDODONTIST JAMES VARGO, DDS

Dr. Vargo graduated from Collins High School in Oak Hill, WV where he was president of his Senior class and president of the National Honor Society.  He then graduated from West Virginia University where he was also a letterman of the track and cross-country teams.  He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from WVU in 1983 and then completed a two-year residency at the Medical College of Virginia, where he received his specialty certificate in Endodontics.  While at MCV, he was named Chief Resident and had the highest academic average of all dental specialty residents.

Dr. Vargo has been a resident of Beckley, WV for the last 38 years and is married and has two children. His hobbies include most outdoor activities and spending time with his family and friends.  Dr. Vargo is an active member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church where he has participated in many church activities including Vestry, Lector, Chalice Bearer, and choir member.

Professional achievements include Dr. Vargo being named a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, FICD, and the American College of Dentists, FACD.  He was elected by his peers and served for five years on the West Virginia Board of Dental Examiners, being elected president of the Board in 2007.  Dr. Vargo continues to serve the profession as an examiner for the Southern Regional Testing Agency, SRTA, and examines dental school seniors throughout the southeast for competency and licensure before they can be allowed to practice the profession of dentistry.  He has also given numerous continuing education programs and clinics on his specialty field of Endodontics.

Of interest is the technique article Dr. Vargo had printed in the Journal of Endodontics (JOE) in October 1992 where he performed successful endodontics on the longest tooth in history!
